Rowton Celebrates 150 Years: A small church with a big heart

Built in 1865, this architectural gem in a rural setting not far from Chester, was packed to capacity morning and evening on Sunday 18 October to celebrate this special anniversary, with joy.

I was struck by the impact this little church has had on so many lives.  Most of the people I met do not come here on a regular Sunday. Many were from the local community, some friends from the Catholic church that worships here, and others with happy memories of Sunday School and weddings.

One lady had travelled from Surrey to join in the celebrations with her parents, because the church had a special place in the life of their family.  Others had come to honour mothers, fathers, grandparents, who had played a part here. There was laughter and tears.  Other churches in the circuit flocked to the evening service, to show their support for the people of Rowton, whose faithful witness continues to share the love of Jesus.
In these 150 years, how many lives have been touched and changed, and who knows what encounters the Holy Spirit still has in store?
