Before leaving on Tuesday I joined Revd Graeme Halls in visiting the new £110m incinerator currently being built near the harbour in St Hellier. It has been a controversial development but is seen as essential for the island to be able to deal with its non-recyclable waste. Once completed it will not only significantly reduce the amount of landfill waste and reduce the amount of emissions currently being produced by the old incinerator, but will also produce 7-8 % of Jersey’s electricity as it will be connected to the neighbouring power station. 
As project director Paul Clements showed us around the site we talked about how Methodists were not just grappling with environmental issues but also wanted to support those working in industry, like the 300 working on this construction site and the people who will manage the plant once it is completed.
